Tile Connect spreads eighteen different animals over an 8x9 board: 72 tiles, four of each animal, which is exactly two pairs each. That margin is thin. Clear one pair of pandas and the only pandas left are the two you just stranded, and they now have to reach each other through whatever is still standing between them.
The glyphs matter more here than the routing does. The mouse and the hamster, the bear and the panda and the koala, the dog and the fox — at tile size those are close enough that a rushed click lands on the wrong one, and the selection simply clears. Neither click is lost from the board, but the second you spend recovering comes straight out of the two-second combo window.
Pair pay is 10 points, and a link inside two seconds of the previous one adds 5 per combo level. Deadlocks are handled for you: after every clear the board checks itself and reshuffles at no cost if nothing is linkable.
Controls
- Click or tap the first animal, then a second tile showing the same one
- Hint — Flashes a connectable pair for three seconds (three per round)
- Shuffle — Rearrange the remaining tiles (three per round)
- Restart — New board and a fresh 2:00 clock
Tips & Tricks
- 1Eighteen animals over 36 pairs means each one has only two pairs — once you clear one of them, that animal is down to a single pair and it is worth noting where it sits
- 2Learn the lookalikes before the clock does: mouse versus hamster, bear versus panda versus koala, dog versus fox. Misreading one clears your selection and costs you the combo window
- 3Clicking a non-matching tile deselects rather than reselecting, so a wrong guess always costs two clicks — lead with the tile you are sure about
- 4A deadlock after a clear is reshuffled automatically within a third of a second, so manual shuffles are for boards you can play but cannot read, not for boards with no move
- 5A hint flashes its pair for three seconds, which is long enough to fix both tiles in memory — spend a hint on the animal you have the fewest of left rather than on the first one you spot
Frequently Asked Questions
How many of each animal are on the board?
Four. Eighteen animals fill 72 tiles, so each one forms exactly two pairs and never appears again once both are cleared.
What happens if I click the wrong animal?
The selection clears. The tile you clicked second is not selected in its place, so a mismatch always costs one extra click.
What if no pair can be connected?
The board reshuffles itself free of charge about 300 ms after each clear. Manual shuffles are never spent on dead boards.
How is the score calculated?
10 points a pair, plus 5 multiplied by the combo level from the second consecutive link, so a 4x link pays 30.
How many hints and shuffles do I get?
Three of each, and neither carries over — every new board starts with the full set.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap-to-select works with touch and mouse, and there is nothing to install.
