How to Play
Memory Sequence trains working memory with a growing pattern of four colored pads. Press Start and the game enters watch mode: the pads light up one after another, forming the round's sequence. When the message switches to your turn, click the pads in the same order. Clear the pattern and the next round plays the same sequence plus one extra step at the end.
The playback also gets faster as rounds go deeper — early steps sit 620 milliseconds apart and the interval shrinks by 18 milliseconds per round, bottoming out at 320. One wrong pad ends the run immediately and shows the round you reached, so the score is the number of fully repeated rounds. Your best round for this browser is saved automatically and shown above the board.
Restart returns to the start screen at any time, and Give up ends the current round early if you want to bank the score. The game is fully local: sequences are generated fresh each run and nothing is uploaded.
Controls
- Start - begin round one with a single step
- Click the pads in the flashed order during your turn
- Give up - end the current run and keep the score
- Restart - back to the start screen
Tips & Tricks
- 1Chunk the sequence into pairs or triplets — remembering 2-2-3 beats holding eight items in a flat list
- 2Say the colors silently in rhythm with the playback; auditory memory complements the visual flash
- 3Watch the first two steps hardest — most runs die early because attention was still settling, not because the pattern was long
- 4The speed-up is gentle: at round six steps are still about half a second apart, so do not rush your clicks to match playback pace
- 5Tap confidently — hesitating mid-sequence makes you re-derive your place from scratch, which is where slips happen
- 6Positional memory helps: the four pads sit in a fixed 2×2 grid, so remember the path your hand traces, not just the colors
- 7After a game over, your best round persists; chasing your own record in short sessions works better than marathon runs
Frequently Asked Questions
How many pads are there?
Four, arranged in a 2×2 grid — red, blue, green and yellow. Each step of the sequence picks one of them at random.
Does the sequence get faster?
Yes. Playback starts at 620 milliseconds per step and shortens by 18 milliseconds each round, with a floor of 320 milliseconds.
What score do I get for a run?
The number of rounds you fully repeated. Failing at round five means a score of four — the unfinished round does not count.
Where is my best round stored?
In this browser's local storage on this device. It survives reloads but never leaves your machine.
Can I replay the sequence during my turn?
No. Watch mode plays the pattern once; your turn repeats it from memory.
Is there a level cap?
No ceiling — the sequence grows by one step per round as long as you keep repeating it correctly.
