Block Stacker is a falling-block puzzle on a 9-column by 18-row field. Pieces are made of four cells, and there are seven shapes — the straight line, the square, and the T, S, Z, J and L variants. Each one drops from the top and you rotate and slide it before it locks into the stack.
Clearing a full horizontal row removes it and drops everything above. Scoring is deliberately top-heavy: the points are the number of rows cleared squared times 100. One row is 100, two at once is 400, three is 900, and four in a single placement is 1,600 — sixteen times a single line for the same number of rows.
Speed comes from your level, which rises by one every six rows cleared. The drop interval starts at 560 milliseconds and tightens by 55 ms per level down to a floor of 140 ms, reached around level 9. The run ends when a new piece has nowhere to spawn at the top.
Controls
- Arrow Left/Right - Move piece horizontally
- Arrow Down - Soft drop (faster fall)
- Arrow Up - Rotate clockwise
- Space - Pause or resume
Tips & Tricks
- 1Four rows at once pays 1,600 against 400 for four separate singles — keep one column open and build for the big clear instead of taking every line as it appears
- 2Hold a long flat surface; a single tall column costs you the whole board once pieces start arriving every 140 ms
- 3The I piece is the only one that clears four rows on its own, so protect a four-deep well on one side for it
- 4Rotate before the piece reaches the stack, not during the last drop — at level 8 you have under 0.2 seconds per cell
- 5Soft drop is free: it only changes how fast the piece falls, so use it to bank time once you have already chosen the placement
- 6Count rows toward the next level. Every sixth row speeds the game up, so finish a clean stack before crossing that threshold
- 7Watch the next piece and plan one placement ahead rather than reacting to each drop
Frequently Asked Questions
How is scoring calculated?
Rows cleared squared times 100: one row 100, two rows 400, three rows 900, four rows 1,600. Clearing four at once is worth sixteen single-row clears.
When does it speed up?
Every six cleared rows raises the level by one. The drop interval goes from 560 ms at level 1 down by 55 ms per level, bottoming out at 140 ms around level 9.
How big is the board?
9 columns by 18 rows. That is 162 cells, and a four-row clear removes 36 of them at once.
How many piece shapes are there?
Seven, each built from four cells: I, O, T, S, Z, J and L.
Does soft dropping cost points?
No. Arrow Down only makes the piece fall faster; scoring depends entirely on how many rows you clear with one placement.
What ends the run?
A piece locking or spawning where there is no room left at the top of the field. Keeping the stack low is the whole defence.
