Hide and Paint is a disguise game played against a countdown. A coloured "environment" wall is painted at the top of the screen and a Seeker starts scanning it. Paint yourself to match that wall and you disappear into it.
There is no paint pot and no mixing: the palette at the bottom of the screen holds four to eight swatches, exactly one of which matches the wall. Tap the match, or press its number, before the scan bar empties. A clean match scores, extends your combo and fills in the wall behind you; a wrong swatch or a timeout gets you SPOTTED, costs one of your three lives, and repaints the board with a new colour, so guessing your way through the palette does not work.
The read changes as the run goes on. Rounds one to three only ask about colour. From round four the wall gains a texture — stripes or dots — and the palette contains a swatch of exactly the right colour with the wrong texture, so matching the hue alone is a trap. From round seven a Seeker sweep crosses the wall and the palette reshuffles its positions every seven tenths of a second, so the match has to be re-found rather than remembered.
Clear ten scans to win. The palette grows every three rounds, up to eight swatches, and the scan window shortens every round. Easy, Medium and Hard set how many swatches you start with and how far apart the decoy hues sit: 24, 18 and 14 degrees from the target. Your best score and win streak are saved in this browser, and a streak unlocks the Neon and Pastel palettes.
Controls
- Mouse / Touch: tap the paint swatch that matches the wall
- Keys 1-8: pick the swatch in that position
- Pause: freeze the scan timer; nothing drains while the match is paused
- Restart: start a fresh run after winning or losing
Tips & Tricks
- 1Read the wall first, not the palette: the answer is the wall's exact hue and texture, and the swatches are only candidates.
- 2From round four, check the texture before the colour. The right hue with the wrong texture is the decoy the game builds for you.
- 3The scan bar starts draining the moment the round appears, so decide fast and then aim — do not compare every swatch in turn.
- 4On Hard the decoys sit 14 degrees from the target, which is close enough to look identical at a glance. Compare along the row rather than against your memory of the wall.
- 5A wrong pick costs a life AND repaints the board, so brute-forcing the palette is worse than waiting for the timer to run out. Read it.
- 6The combo is worth 25 points per step on top of the 100 for the match, so a clean ten-round run scores far more than one with a miss in it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I win a run?
Match the wall for ten rounds. You start with three lives, so you can afford two misses before the Seeker catches you.
What happens if I pick the wrong swatch?
You get SPOTTED, lose a life, and the board is repainted with a new wall and a new palette. Guessing does not pay.
Why did the right colour get me spotted?
From round four the wall also has a texture. A swatch with the target's hue and the opposite texture is always in the palette from then on.
Does the game get harder?
Three ways: the palette grows every three rounds up to eight swatches, the scan window shortens every round, and rounds seven to ten reshuffle the palette while you look at it.
Are there difficulty levels?
Three. Easy, Medium and Hard start at four, five and six swatches, and their decoy hues sit 24, 18 and 14 degrees from the target.
Can I play with the keyboard?
Yes. Each swatch is numbered, and keys 1 to 8 pick the swatch in that position.
Where is my best score saved?
Locally in this browser on this device. Clearing site data or switching browsers resets it.
