How to Play
Pumpkin Smash is a 45-second Halloween whack-fest played on a 3×3 patch grid. Press Start Round and targets begin popping up out of the patches. A regular pumpkin is worth 10 points and stays up for about one second; a golden star is worth 30 points but vanishes in roughly 0.6 seconds, so it pays to keep your mallet resting near the middle of the board. Ghosts also drift up from the patches — tapping one costs you 15 points, so the winning habit is to move your cursor away the moment you see purple.
Every four clean hits in a row raise your combo multiplier one step, from ×1 up to a ×4 cap, and the multiplier applies to whatever you smash next: a golden star caught at ×4 is worth 120 points. The streak is fragile. Hitting a ghost or clicking an empty patch resets the combo to zero, so late-round greed is what separates a 300-point round from a 900-point one.
The spawn pace tightens as the round ages — targets start appearing about every 0.9 seconds and the interval shrinks by 10 milliseconds for every second on the clock, bottoming out at 0.45 seconds. Your best score is stored locally in this browser and shown next to the score panel, so every round is a race against your own record.

Tips & Tricks
- 1Golden stars pay 30 but live only about 0.6 seconds — keep your cursor circling the center patches to cut travel time
- 2The multiplier caps at ×4 after twelve straight hits, and a star at ×4 is worth 120 — protecting a streak matters more than any single target
- 3Ghosts cost 15 points and kill your combo; a purple patch is the one thing on the board you never click
- 4Clicking an empty patch does not cost points, but it resets the combo — on touch screens, tap only patches you can see are occupied
- 5Spawns tighten from 0.9 seconds apart to 0.45 by the end, so the last fifteen seconds are where big scores happen — do not coast early
- 6A perfect round against the pacing caps out around 60 spawns; beating 500 points means you caught most of the stars and dropped almost no combos
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a round?
45 seconds. Targets appear about every 0.9 seconds at first and the interval tightens by 10 milliseconds per second of play, bottoming out at 0.45 seconds.
What is each target worth?
Pumpkins pay 10, golden stars pay 30 but vanish in about 0.6 seconds, and ghosts cost 15 points when tapped. The combo multiplier multiplies the positive targets only.
How does the combo work?
Every four clean hits raise the multiplier one step from ×1 to a ×4 cap. Hitting a ghost or clicking an empty patch resets the streak to zero.
Where is my best score saved?
In this browser's local storage on this device. It survives reloads but never leaves your machine.
Can I pause the round?
Yes — the pause button freezes the clock and the spawner mid-round, and the same button resumes play.
Does the game work on phones?
Yes. The patches are touch targets and taps are registered on touch start, so the game plays the same on a phone as with a mouse.
